Highlights: Morning guided tour of three of the most popular bridges of Madison County - Rusty Stars Alpaca farm - Afternoon tour and refreshments at the Bare Bison Ranch
Spend a day experiencing the beautiful fall colors and serenity surrounding the bridges of Madison County. Once we arrive in Winterset, Iowa, our local historian and guide will meet us for the morning. We will first visit the 1883 Roseman Covered Bridge and walk in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. Our next stop is the Cutler-Donahoe Covered Bridge which is located in the city park. Our final bridge visit is to the Holliwell Covered Bridge; this 1880 bridge measuring 122 feet is the longest covered bridge in the area. It was also featured in the Bridges of Madison County movie. After a buffet lunch at Pizza King, we will visit the Rusty Stars Alpaca farm in the nearby countryside. Owner, Aron Shultz, will tell us about raising these animals for their fibers to make clothing items. You will learn about their habits and have an opportunity to feed and pet them. The farm also has a small gift shop filled with alpaca related items. The final stop of the tour is the 350 acre Bare Bison Ranch. We will have an opportunity to get close to the bison and learn about this amazing beast. After the tour presentation, we will go to the ranch’s beautiful event facility to enjoy refreshments and some bison treats.
