Highlights: Shopping at historic Amana Colonies and downtown Galena - Family style lunch at Ox Yoke Inn restaurant in Amana Colonies - Wine tasting dinner at Stone Cliff Winery - Galena historical trolley tour

Spend some time exploring the historic downtown shopping areas of the Amana Colonies, Iowa, and Galena, Illinois. Our adventure begins with lunch at the Ox Yoke Inn restaurant in the Amana Colonies. Opened in 1940, the restaurant features old world signature entrees and recipes featuring traditional German and American favorites. Here you will enjoy a family style lunch including Amana ham, fried chicken, and ice cream. After the big meal, burn some calories by shopping in Amana. You will not find any mall stores, just mom and pop stores that have a special focus. Many of the shops will carry locally made products. Do not miss the historic Amana General Store, International Christmas Market, Catiri’s Art Oasis, and Heritage Designs (quilt and needlework shop).

This afternoon we travel to Galena, Illinois, for one night. Our accommodations will be the Country Inn & Suites. A couple minutes away in historic Dubuque, Iowa, is the Stone Cliff Winery which is set in a historic beer brewery on the Mississippi River. We will enjoy a private wine tasting while grazing on a variety of appetizers and pizza.

The next morning, we explore the historic town of Galena, Illinois. Before we begin shopping, the group will enjoy an open air trolley tour. The tour will take you back in time as you see historic homes and buildings that once made Galena a major riverboat community. See U.S. Grant’s home, Galena’s largest mansion, oldest home, and many more sights.  After the tour, you are free to explore the many shops and restaurants on Main Street. Today lunch is on your own. We will leave Galena for Omaha at 1:30 pm.
